Newly launched Equity, Diversity and Inclusion programme for vets: everything you need to know

The CVS Group has introduced a fresh course focusing on equity, diversity, and inclusion, accessible to all practices across the UK.

Offering two hours of CPD, the seven-section programme offers content suitable for both clinical and non-clinical personnel.

The developers, Nimisha Patel-Cook and Claire Dennison, said: “We want to increase the levels of diversity within the veterinary community, but to achieve and sustain more diverse workforces, we know we need to foster inclusive and equitable workplaces. Everyone plays a part in that.

“In time, we hope that it contributes to an inclusive and psychologically safe culture for all within the sector.”

With more than 600 veterinary professionals already enrolled on the programme, it is hoped this bespoke training will help create positive change in the sector.

In terms of content, the course offers insight into and useful definitions for:

  • Diversity and inclusion
  • Bias
  • Prejudice
  • Protected characteristics and discrimination
  • How non-discriminative behaviours could be challenged.

Remember, veterinary surgeons are required to complete 35 hours of CPD and veterinary nurses need 15 hours of CPD every year.
