Supporting responsible pet ownership this National Pet Month!

Before April draws to a close (and the sun starts making a more permanent appearance), we wanted to celebrate National Pet Month! Today, we are raising awareness around responsible pet ownership. Carry on reading to find out how your veterinary practice can get involved.

Educate, educate, educate

As a veterinary professional, you are in a position of power when it comes to promoting animal welfare. Make sure your clients are well-informed on their pet’s basic healthcare needs such as dietary requirements, suitable exercise and environmental factors to bear in mind.

It is also important to remind new pet owners about neutering and microchipping as they might not be aware of which procedures their new friend might need to undergo.

Prevent impulse adoptions

Pet ownership should never be a spur-of-the-moment decision, as it takes dedicated care, financial commitment and a long list of welfare needs that need to be met. Remind your clients of the level of responsibility it takes to look after a pet/adopt more.

Spread the word

Put posters up around your practice explaining the guidelines for responsible pet ownership and use social media platforms to spread the word with clients. Visit the BSAVA website to find out more.

Here at Choice Vets, we strongly support responsible pet ownership and hope our candidates can help in the mission to keep pet owners informed and educated on the matter.
